If you are interested in using data from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, please read the Terms & Conditions prior to submitting your Data Request Form.

Data Request: In order to access the SCBI 25.6-hectare Forest Dynamics Plot data a "Data Request Form" must be completed. This form requires that the applicant agree to comply with "Terms and Conditions" for the use of the SCBI Forest Dynamics Plot Data as described here.

Non-transferability: Prospective investigators are not permitted to share the SCBI data with other parties not included on the Data Request Form.

Citation: Any publication that uses SCBI plot data should include the following citation:

Bourg, N.A., W.J. McShea, J.R. Thompson, J.C. McGarvey, and X. Shen. 2013. Initial census, woody seedling, seed rain, and stand structure data for the SCBI SIGEO Large Forest Dynamics Plot. Ecology 94(9): 2111-2112. http://dx.doi.org/10.1890/13-0010.1

Copies of articles: Copies of manuscripts should be sent to the PIs, Kristina J. Anderson-Teixeira (TeixeiraK@si.edu), William J. McShea (mcsheaw@si.edu) and Norman A. Once published, the PDF and any supplementary documents should also be sent to the PIs.  Upon publication, a PDF copy of (or a link to) the article should also be sent to forestgeo@si.edu.

Limitation of Use: Prospective investigators are discouraged from using the SCBI data for projects or analyses other than those explicitly described in the Data Request Form. To help the PIs to keep track of data use, a new Data Request Form should be submitted for any new use of the data. Prospective investigators are also not permitted to sell the data, or use them in any way for commercial gain.

Data Citation: Any publication that uses SCBI Plot data should state the specific version number of the data set used for analysis. This version number will be provided after the data request has been approved.

Acknowledgements: All publications that include the SCBI-ha plot data must acknowledge the institutions and funding that enabled the establishment of the plot with the following acknowledgement:

Funding for the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) Large Forest Dynamics Plot (LFDP) was provided by the Smithsonian Institution, the National Zoological Park, and the HSBC Climate Partnership. The SCBI LFDP is part of the Smithsonian Institution Forest Global Earth Observatory, a worldwide network of large, long-term forest dynamics plots.
